Maryland HQL | MD HQL — What you need to do to get it done!

We are now almost one year into the new Maryland law requiring citizens to get your Maryland Handgun Qualification License, MD HQL.   You will find programs from $50.00 to $200.00 depending on the level of service you are looking for when it comes to getting your HQL.
The trainers who are generally serious about helping you get your Maryland HQL, you will find run in the $100-$150 range, also look for someone who offers 4-6 trainings a month, they are generally on top of the HQL game.

What you should look for to make your life easier:

  • Do they just train and certify you?
  • Is LiveScan Fingerprinting available during class?
  • Do they approve you immediately after class?
  • Do you have an opportunity to personally take a firearm apart, or are you just shown from a distance?
  • Are you shoved into a classroom, or are trainings limited in size?
  • Are computers or Wi-Fi available so you can finished your application onsite (major plus!)

Who is your Instructor?

Is it a gun shop who does this as a side service, or is it a professional instructor who has credentials that gives you the confidence you are dealing with a training professional.   A firearms instructor is not a firearms sales professional, and gun shops generally are not professional firearms instructors.  Use both for what they do best and you will benefit as a customer.
